Poson Evening at Maryland Buddhist Vihara

Maryland Buddhist Vihara warmly invites devotees, families and friends to join a special Poson celebration on Saturday, 13 June 2026.

Organised by the Sri Lanka Group in Maryland, the evening will include Poson devotional songs and two traditional dansalas: a rice-and-curry meal and an ice-cream offering, freely shared with everyone who attends. The programme will take place from 6:30 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. at the Vihara in Wheaton.

Poson commemorates the arrival of Arahant Mahinda Thera in Sri Lanka and the introduction of the Buddha’s teachings to the island. It remains an occasion for reflection, generosity and gratitude, with communities traditionally marking the day through religious observances and acts of giving.

The sharing of food through a dansala expresses the Buddhist practice of dāna, or generosity, offered without expectation of reward. Through devotional music, fellowship and service, this gathering offers an opportunity for the community to celebrate Poson together in a welcoming and joyful spirit.

Everyone is warmly welcome.

🙏 Sadhu! Sadhu!! Sadhu!!!
