You Are Welcome Here
Whether you have practised for many years or have never set foot in a temple before, you are welcome at the Maryland Buddhist Vihara. There is no membership, no fee, and no expectation. Come as you are.
If this is your first visit, you are welcome simply to sit quietly and observe. Nobody will ask anything of you. If you have questions, Bhante and our community are always glad to answer them.
What to wear
Modest, comfortable clothing — shoulders and knees covered. You will be asked to remove your shoes before entering the shrine room. White is worn as a mark of purity — come as you are if you don't have any.
Offerings
There is no need to bring anything. If you wish, you may bring flowers, incense, or candles to offer at the shrine — but this is entirely optional.
Customs
You may see others bow three times before the Buddha image, or greet Bhante with palms pressed together. You are welcome to join in, or simply to sit quietly. Nothing is required of you.

By car — Limited parking is available on-site. Additional street parking can be found on the surrounding roads.
By Metro — The Vihara is about a 15-minute walk from Wheaton station on the Red Line. Leave the station at the Georgia Avenue exit and head north.
By bus — Wheaton station is the local transit hub, served by Ride On and Metrobus routes, including the M20 along Georgia Avenue. From the station it is a short walk to the Vihara.

Bhante offers blessings and ceremonies for life's significant occasions — weddings, funerals and memorial services, and blessings for new homes and openings.
