Vesak at MBV: A Day of Reverence, Blessings and Dhamma

On Sunday, 24 May 2026, Maryland Buddhist Vihara gathered for its annual Vesak celebration, commemorating the Birth, Enlightenment and Parinibbāna of the Buddha. Bhante Uparatana led the observance, which included the Twenty-Eight Buddhas Pūjā, offerings, chanting and a special Dhamma talk.

The Vihara was beautifully adorned with flowers, lamps and a series of Buddha images for the Twenty-Eight Buddhas Pūjā, also known as the Atavisi Buddha Pūjā. Devotees joined members of the Maha Sangha in offerings, chanting and blessings, creating an atmosphere of reverence and quiet joy.

The Most Venerable Katugastota Uparatana Nayaka Thera guided the observance and delivered a special Dhamma talk for the occasion. His message was also broadcast live to viewers in Sri Lanka, allowing devotees beyond the temple to participate in the spirit of the celebration.

The programme brought together ceremonial devotion and reflection on the Buddha’s teachings. Through pūjā, chanting and the sharing of Dhamma, the community renewed its aspiration to cultivate wisdom, compassion and mindful living.
