Medirigiriya House: A New Home for a Family in Need

On 7 November 2025, the Most Venerable Katugastota Uparatana Nayaka Thera joined members of the Maha Sangha and the local community for the blessing and handover of Medirigiriya House, a newly constructed home for a family in need in Bisopura, Medirigiriya, Sri Lanka.

The project was undertaken to provide the family, who had been living in difficult conditions, with a safe, dignified and secure place to call home. Monks, organisers, supporters and members of the community gathered to mark the completion of the house and to share in the family’s happiness.

Bhante and the assembled monks conducted traditional blessings for the new residence and offered their good wishes as the family began a new chapter in their lives. The occasion reflected the Buddhist virtues of dāna, compassion and practical service to those facing hardship.

For the Maryland Buddhist Vihara community, Bhante’s participation serves as a reminder that the practice of the Dhamma extends beyond the temple through acts that ease suffering and strengthen communities.

May the family enjoy peace, happiness and security in Medirigiriya House, and may all who contributed to this worthy undertaking share in its merit.
