Bhante Joins the International Tipitaka Chanting at Bodh Gaya

In December 2025, the Most Venerable Katugastota Uparatana Nayaka Thera participated in the 20th International Tipitaka Chanting Ceremony at the sacred Mahabodhi Temple in Bodh Gaya, India.

Held from 2 to 12 December, the gathering brought together members of the Maha Sangha and lay devotees from Buddhist communities around the world. Participants assembled near the Bodhi Tree to recite teachings from the Tipitaka—the collection of scriptures preserving the Buddha’s teachings—in their respective languages and traditions.

Bhante joined fellow monastics in the chanting and associated observances at the place where the Buddha attained Enlightenment. His participation reflected Maryland Buddhist Vihara’s connection with the wider international Buddhist community and its commitment to preserving and sharing the Dhamma.

The annual gathering also included a ceremonial procession, Dhamma talks, cultural programmes and offerings of dāna. Through collective recitation and practice, those present offered their aspirations for peace, harmony and the welfare of all beings.
