Children Observe the Eight Precepts on Mother’s Day at MBV
Mother’s Day at Maryland Buddhist Vihara this year was marked by a beautiful and meaningful observance as children joined in a special Eight Precepts Day with their families and Dhamma School community.
Held on May 10, 2026, the program brought together children, parents, and well-wishers for a day centered on virtue, mindfulness, and gratitude. Under the guidance of Bhante, the young participants undertook the Eight Precepts, learning the value of discipline, simplicity, loving-kindness, and respect for the Buddha’s teachings.
The observance offered the children a chance to step away from their usual routines and experience a day of spiritual reflection in the temple environment. Throughout the program, they were encouraged to cultivate calm minds, good conduct, and an appreciation for Buddhist values in daily life.
Because the event took place on Mother’s Day, the program also carried a special message of gratitude. It was a fitting occasion to honor mothers and mother figures whose care, sacrifice, and guidance help shape the lives of children. Bringing together the observance of precepts with Mother’s Day created a warm and memorable atmosphere, linking family appreciation with spiritual practice.
The gathering also reflected the strength of the temple community, with children and adults sharing in a day that nourished both faith and fellowship. Events like this help pass Buddhist traditions to the next generation while creating lasting memories for families.
Maryland Buddhist Vihara is grateful to Bhante, the Dhamma School families, volunteers, and all who helped make the day a success. May the merits of this wholesome observance bring blessings, peace, and happiness to all.
